I Must Have These

A couple of years ago I was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't find any calf-height boots that would fit my calves. Back in the day I used to be a dancer and I developed quite the muscular calves. Then I hurt myself, stopped dancing, and got fat and my calves became even larger. They are truly impressive. Unfortunately it meant for the longest time that the shoes I loved and coveted most were lost to me.

And then some manufacturers realized they were missing out on a lot of revenue by ignoring a certain demographic and suddenly the market was open to me, albeit in a very limited way (I tried really hard in that sentence to avoid the words big, large, ample, etc. because I didn't want a post about ladies with large calves to be winked knowingly). Still having twenty styles of mid-calf boots to choose from was a welcomed advancement.

A couple of Christmases ago I put a pair of black riding boots on my Christmas wish list, thinking that I really, really, really wanted them but probably wouldn't get them because of the price. You see, while girls with skinny calves can walk into just about any store in the mall and spend $30 on a pair of boots (albeit cheap boots), these extra special boots are not cheap. At $250 it's the equivalent of my clothes shopping budget for a whole season. So I was thrilled when I opened a big rectangle box on Christmas morning and there staring back at me was a pair of black leather riding boots with butter soft leather. I've worn them a ton and while I love how they look, I also love how comfortable they are. Because I have some feet problems stemming from an incident at a wedding - the song "Jump Around" is forever dead to me - I need to have really comfortable walking shoes. The boots Alan got for me are comfortable enough that I'm considering taking them to New Orleans with us in November. And that's a trip where I'm anticipating a ton of walking.

The problem now is that I'm weird about mixing browns & blacks. If the color palette of my clothes gears more toward natural hues, I want brown shoes. If I'm wearing black, blue, or gray I want black shoes. I have about an equal breakdown of tones in my wardrobe so a lot of times I'm left struggling with my brown shoe choice. Simply put, I don't have one single pair of comfortable brown shoes that I can wear in the autumn and winter.

This year I'm asking for the boots in this post. They're by the same manufacturer as the black pair I already own. And I like the extra buckle detail so they won't be too similar to the other pair I wear. I hope Santa is good to me. Last year we had a lean Christmas since we went to Ohio and didn't want to spend too much on gifts for each other. But this year we're staying home so I'm not above putting some of that extra cash toward items I really, really, really want. Besides, it's not as if any of our local nieces and nephews give two figs about any of the gifts we've ever got them for Christmas. Maybe I'll buy them some paper dolls and put the extra cash toward me. I've been a very good girl this year.

What kind of boots are these?  I have shall we say, chunky calves, but I want tall boots damn it! :)

I love this post. Seriously, I was SO HAPPY when manufacturers started making tall boots for normal people. I found a pair of brown boots that I LOVE last year on super sale at Nordstrom's. Score! But, I have the same mixing of black and brown issue as you ... I'm not sure how to make that happen. What boots are the ones you're showing? Super cute!
