CHRISTMAS 2012 - THE COUNTDOWN TO TOFINO

I know most of us are still trying to get caught up from Christmas 2011 - putting away decorations, taking down our trees, trying to lose weight from all the holiday treats we consumed - but I'm already thinking about Christmas 2012. Yeah, I know. I'm one of those people.

Originally we had planned to do a European river cruise to visit the Christmas markets up and down the Danube, but lately the thought of a 14-hour treck to Munich or Frankfurt is more than my fragile nerves can handle so I started thinking about alternatives.

Since we've visited Tofino in the summer and have talked about heading north for winter storm watching season, we decided to take those two weeks we would have spent in Europe and put them toward a relaxing vacation in one of our favorite places. We decided that instead of our regular suite at Middle Beach Lodge, we wanted to rent a house on the ocean that provided reliable wireless internet connection and which wasn't prohibitively expensive. After looking at all of our options, that narrowed the field to about ten properties. Unfortunately three of these have already been rented for the holiday season which left us with fewer options than I had anticipated. Knowing we had to act quickly before losing out on any more great properties, we decided tonight to pull the trigger and put down our deposit on a beach front house on Chesterman Beach. It's not going to be cheap, but I know it'll be wonderful.

Since returning from Tofino in September, I've been following practically everyone who lives in Tofino and uses Twitter. This week I've sat at home, looking longingly of images of Long Beach, Mackenzie Beach, Cox Bay, and Chesterman Beach covered in snow. I can only hope we get a bit of the white stuff when we're there for the holidays. If not, we'll get the opportunity to watch the waves pounding the coast, or to go hiking in the rain forest. No matter what Mother Nature serves up, we win.

In the meantime, for the remainder of the year I've got a whole new reason to look forward to Christmas, and unlike this past year it has nothing to do with how I'm going to decorate the house.

I'm giddy with excitement.

I know you'll have an awesome time!  But, I'm sad b/c Sean wants to try and make the trip this year to CA for Christmas, guess we'll have to go to the LA area instead of the bay area.  Either way is better than here, lol.

  2. It's kind of sad that we both dislike Christmas at home so much.
