RETHINKING THE KITCHEN - AGAIN

When we first moved into the casa back in July 2006, the kitchen was one of the first rooms I knew we'd need to makeover. A complete remodel wasn't in the budget, but we definitely needed to do something about the hideous 80s oak cabinets with their brass pulls and broken down, beat up appliances. Over time we painted the cabinets white, replaced the appliances, and painted the kitchen blue.

Initially, I loved the look of the crisp white cabinets but over time they've become a bit of a pain. It's hard enough to keep the countertops a bright white (bleach is the best remedy), but because I'm a bit of a sloppy cook and Alan is a bit of a sloppy dishwasher, the bottom cabinets have become stained and chipped and all around unsightly. You can't tell from far away, but close up it's actually kind of disgusting. I'll spare you the photographic evidence. We don't have the wherewithal to change the flooring at this point, but I think we could do something about the bottom cabinets with a gallon of paint and some elbow grease.

So, I'm kind of thinking black bottom cabinets and white uppers. Some inspiration pics:
