Details are Very Important

Today I received an IM from Alan that kicked off a moment of absolute terror and panic - until he provided one very important detail. It goes a little something like this:
Him: I didn't tell you about my excitement this morning
Me: you did not
Him: when I went to fill up my water bottle a cockroach popped out
Me: HOLY S***. NO WAY. EWW GROSS. *shudders*
Him: I don't know if was in my bottle, came out of the faucet or fell off the cabinet at the exact right time. I'm not sure which I hope. I thought it was a spider.
Me: OH NOES! We *can't* have roaches.
Him: I eeked and dropped my water bottle. This is at work, btw. (italics added for this post)
Me: i seriously have the heebie jeebies right now
Him: did you think I meant at home? sorry.
Me: Oh thank god.
Him: sorry to have scared you
I'm not sure when my heart was beating faster - at this morning's treadmill stress test or when for a couple of minutes I thought my house had a roach infestation. You see, I've lived with roaches before and I have absolutely no intention of doing so again. When I moved in with my dad and stepmom in the third grade, our house always had roaches. We got rid of them by movie. They were always there. This was also around the same time when I kept getting head lice from my step-cousins. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about how awesome my child hood was.

  1. Ew.  You better have him decontaminate each night before he comes inside.
